Allen Alexander Akin

Allen Alexander Akin, age 70, of Brentwood, Tennessee, passed away on September 9, 2026.

Allen was born in Nashville, Tennessee, to the late Allen and Orilla Akin. He graduated from Forrest School in Chapel Hill in 1974, where his classmates voted him “Most Likely to Succeed,” a prediction he spent the rest of his life proving right in his own way.

Allen was the proud owner of Akin Bimmer Works in Brentwood, where he built a successful business doing what came naturally to him: figuring out how things worked and, more importantly, how to fix them. He had an incredible ability to understand just about anything mechanical, and when there was a problem to solve, Allen was usually the person you wanted nearby.

That curiosity extended far beyond cars. Over his 70 years, Allen collected more hobbies, skills, and interests than most people could fit into several lifetimes. He enjoyed woodworking, restoring and working on cars, making knives, and tackling whatever project caught his interest next. He took great pride in his yard and genuinely loved mowing the lawn. Some of his happiest days were spent on the lake, where he was, unquestionably, the Captain of his boat.

Allen never met a stranger and, as his family lovingly says, could talk to a wall. He could strike up a conversation with just about anyone, anywhere, and chances are, by the end of it, he had learned their story and told them a few of his own.

To his family, Allen was a provider, a protector, a problem-solver, and, more often than not, the voice of reason. He was fiercely proud of the people he loved and made sure they knew it. When there was a question, a problem, or something that needed fixing, his family knew they could turn to him.

To his grandchildren, he was “Pa.” Being their Pa was a role he grew into and treasured. He loved to tease and aggravate them, share his wisdom, and keep everyone on their toes.

Allen shared 51 years of marriage with his loving wife, JoAnn. Together they built a life and a family that meant everything to him. His greatest legacy will not be the things he built, repaired, restored, or created, but the family he loved, provided for, protected, taught, teased, and guided throughout his life.

Allen was preceded in death by his parents, Allen and Orilla Akin, and his brothers, Jerry Harrison and Jimmy Harrison.

He is survived by his wife, JoAnn Akin of Brentwood, Tennessee; daughter, Amy (James) Fryman of Nolensville, Tennessee; sons, and John (Jennifer) Mooneyham of Nolensville, Tennessee; brother, Mike (Vicki) Akin of Chapel Hill, Tennessee; grandchildren, Layla Akin, Mady Akin, Nolan Akin, Evelyn Fryman, Katelyn Mooneyham, and Jordin Mooneyham; as well as many other loving family members and friends.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 19, 2026, with visitation beginning two hours prior to the service at Williamson Memorial Funeral Home. Jim Taylor will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the American Heart Association.
