Obituary

B. Wayne Sims, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and faithful servant of his community and church, passed away peacefully following an extended illness on November 3, 2026.

Born on May 25, 1938, in Mount Pleasant, Tennessee, Wayne was the son of the late Belton Sims and Lois Irwin Sims. He was also preceded in death by his brother, James Ray Sims.

Wayne graduated from Hay Long High School in Mount Pleasant in 1956 and continued his education at Martin Methodist College in Pulaski, Tennessee, graduating in 1958. While at Martin Methodist, he distinguished himself as a letterman on the tennis team, reflecting a lifelong appreciation for sports, discipline, and fellowship. He also enjoyed camping and spending time outdoors, pursuits that brought him great joy and created lasting memories with family and friends throughout the years.

A longtime resident of Franklin, Tennessee, Wayne devoted much of his professional life to serving his community. He was the manager of National Store for many years and later worked at Pigg & Peach Men's Clothing, where he became known for his friendly demeanor, integrity, and dedication to customer service.

Wayne believed strongly in community involvement and service to others. He served as Assistant Scoutmaster for Boy Scout Troop 137 for several years, helping guide and mentor young men. He was a former member of both the Franklin Noon Rotary Club and the Franklin Lions Club. During his time with the Lions Club, he served as president and was recognized as a Melvin Jones Fellow, honors that reflected his commitment to leadership and service. Wayne also dedicated 16 years as a volunteer at Williamson Medical Center, generously giving his time to support patients, visitors, and staff. Beyond his service to the community, Wayne enjoyed woodworking and gardening, finding great satisfaction in creating with his hands and cultivating beautiful outdoor spaces. His willingness to serve wherever there was a need, combined with his generosity, craftsmanship, and love of nature, made a lasting impact on countless lives throughout the community.

A lifelong Methodist, Wayne's faith was the foundation of his life. He was a devoted member of the Methodist Church and was active in both First United Methodist Church and Epworth United Methodist Church in Franklin. His faith was evident in the kindness, humility, and generosity he showed to everyone he met.

Wayne's greatest joy was his family. He is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years, Martha Roberts Sims; daughter, Beth Sims of Columbia, Tennessee; son, Chris Sims and his wife, Carla, of Harvest, Alabama; and his grandchildren, Joy Shepherd (Greg Skibinski) of Birmingham, Alabama and Alan Shepherd of Harvest, Alabama. He also leaves behind

cherished cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and many dear friends whose lives were enriched by knowing him.

Wayne will be remembered for his unwavering faith, dedication to family, commitment to community service, and genuine kindness. His legacy of love, integrity, and service will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing him.

"Well done, good and faithful servant."
