Barbara Joan Smith, 92, passed away peacefully on July 19, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of volunteering and joy that will forever be cherished by her family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Born in 1933 in New Orleans, she graduated from Adamson High School in Dallas, Texas. She attended the University of Texas at Arlington before marrying the love of her life, Bill Smith, in 1953. They were married for 68 years.

She was the proud mother of three children: Chuck (wife Marla), Karen (husband Steve), and Andy (wife Kim), a doting grandmother to her grandkids Brenda, Robin, Lauren and Aly, as well as an adoring great-grandmother to her great-grandkids Levi and Griffin.

Joan began volunteering at the Williamson County Hospital (now known as Williamson Health) in 1974 and continued for at least one day a week over the next 43 years.

When her youngest son went away to college, she joined the family publishing business, doing all the bookkeeping and keeping track of the money. She retired in 2001 when the business was sold, continued volunteering, and spoiling the grandkids.

A graveside service will be held at Williamson Memorial for the immediate family on Wednesday, July 22, 2026.
