Betty Grace Rains Stewart, 84, passed away peacefully after a short illness following a fall in June.
Born to Blann H. and Reva Jo (Inman) Rains in Otwell, Ark., Betty devoted her life to family and service. After receiving her bachelor’s degree from Arkansas State University, Betty married Col. Asa E. Stewart in 1961 as he entered service as an officer in the United States Army. They were together for almost 40 years until his passing in 2001. As a proud Army wife, Betty embraced the challenges and joys of military life, creating warm and welcoming homes across the United States and abroad. She was a dedicated homemaker and an avid volunteer, giving generously of her time and talents to every community where her family was stationed.
Betty’s greatest joy was her family. She is survived by her four children, Jessica Neaves (Bryan) of Belton, Tx., Jennifer Stewart-Wright, Beverly Ringstaff (Ralph), and Zachary Stewart, all of middle Tennessee; her beloved grandchildren, Jesse Wright (Rachel), Selah Davidson, Stewart Ringstaff, and Cooper Ringstaff; her great-granddaughter, Aislyn Davidson; and she was eagerly awaiting the arrival of a new great-granddaughter in September. She is also survived by her sister, Virginia Joann (Rains) Sullivan of Sikeston, Missouri.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and her brother Blann H. Rains, Jr.
Betty will be remembered for her steadfast devotion to family, her generosity of spirit, and the warmth she shared with all who knew her.
