Betty Murphy passed from this earth on January 3rd 2023.  Betty was 87 years old. She was the daughter of Archie and Gladys Murphy of Auburn Maine. She is survived by her younger sister Maureen Juneau of Wilmington, NC and her brother Clayton Murphy of Portland Oregon.

Betty was born in Augusta, Maine in 1936.   She served in the Air Force around the Korean War and married Ron Weatherell in mid 1950s.  She was a graduate of Edward Little High School in Auburn (51), and got her advanced degree from Auburn University in Montgomery, Alabama.  She worked as a medical tech for most of her career and managed the LabCore office in Birmingham. Alabama retiring to Montgomery in the early 2000s.  She also spent some time as a real estate agent in the Birmingham area.  During her marriage to Ron, she had two children.  Ralph Weatherell of Brentwood, TN and Peggy Robertson of Woodstock, GA.  Her grandchildren include Austin, Adam, Savannah and Margaret Weatherell of Nashville, Lauren Knickrehm of Birmingham and Elisabeth Robertson of New York City.  She also has one grandchild Robert James Knickrehm of Birmingham.

A memorial service celebrating Betty’s life will be held at a future date at the Middle Tennessee Veterans Cemetery. Betty had a dry wit and loved her independence. As an avid book reader, she enjoyed the stories of Nora Roberts, Sandra Brown, John Samford among others.  She especially enjoyed working in her yard in the old Coverdale section of Montgomery where she owned a home.  She spent the last couple of years in an assisted living facility called Brighton Gardens of Brentwood where they took great care of her. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to GraceWorks Ministries.
