Obituary

Beverly June (Workman) Scott, age 85, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a life defined by devotion, artistry, and an unwavering commitment to nurturing others. Beverly was the beloved wife of Earl Scott, with whom she shared nearly 60 years of marriage.

Beverly devoted her life to making and sharing music with others. She received her first violin at age eight and began teaching at fifteen. She spent decades teaching students from age three through adulthood. In addition to her teaching, Beverly was a gifted accompanist who supported countless young performers with patience, encouragement, and her exceptional musicianship.

A founding member of the Anderson Symphony Orchestra in Indiana, Beverly played violin and viola with the ensemble for 50 years, retiring as its final remaining founding member. Though widely known for her work as a violinist, she often admitted that the piano was her favorite instrument — the one she turned to for personal joy and reflection. She also sang in church choirs throughout her life, sharing her voice as another expression of her faith and love of music.

In 2018, Beverly and Earl moved to Tennessee to be closer to their daughter and to attend to their medical needs. Even before relocating, they both sang and played at St. Andrew Lutheran Church in Franklin whenever they were in town.

Beverly is survived by her daughter Amy (Anne), her son Rich (Melinda), her grandsons Ryan (Joan), Jason, and Eric, and her niece Jenny (Tom). Her legacy lives on in her family, her students, and the many musicians whose lives she touched.

A memorial service will be held at St. Andrew Lutheran Church in Franklin, Tennessee on Saturday October 17 at 11:00 am (CST). Visitation will be before the service with a reception to follow. The service will be livestreamed on YouTube. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Anderson Symphony Orchestra, Trinity Episcopal Church in Anderson, or St. Andrew Lutheran Church.
