Doris Summers Scates (Dottie), 87, of Dresden, TN, left this earth and went home to her Heavenly Father on December 21, 2022. She lived in Franklin, TN.

Dottie was born on March 30, 1935 to Floyd Mitchell Summers and Lilly Stafford Summers. She graduated from Martin Senior High School where she was Valedictorian, Homecoming Queen, and a cheerleader for four years. She married the love of her life, Carlys Peak Scates, on June 3, 1956 at the First Baptist Church in Martin, TN. They would spend the next 66 years building an amazing life together. She graduated from Michigan State University with a BA in Economics and Business Education. She went on to graduate from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville with a MS in Economics and Business Education. She taught at several colleges and universities including: University of Louisville, University of Tennessee, Lambuth College, University of South Florida, and Florida Southern College. She worked in several management positions including Director of Software Quality Management for GTE Data Services. She also owned her own consulting company. Her great loves were her family, teaching Bible studies and being a partner with her husband, Carlys, in ministry. Their ministry together spanned over 6 decades and included more than 5 churches. She served God and others tirelessly and selflessly. She hosted fellowships, chaperoned choir mission trips, fed teenagers in her home, taught Sunday School classes, played piano, and helped with cantatas, pageants, and musicals. She was a devoted wife, loving mother, leader, mentor, role model, and friend. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Dottie is preceded in death by her husband, Carlys Scates; her parents, Floyd and Lilly Summers; and her brother Edward Summers.

Dottie is survived by her children, Craig and Susan Scates and Dawn and Jason Bradley; her sister, Farra Mai Shipp; and her grandchildren, John Hayne Scates, Travis Mason Scates, Thomas Peak Scates, Kylie Elise Bradley, and Koda Peak Bradley.

A Reception in her memory will be held at the home of Dawn Bradley. There will also be a celebration of life held in Florida at a later date.
