Brentwood, TN

Edith Eileen Swoboda, née O’Hara, 1/27/1935 to 8/23/2025

A Baltimore, Maryland native, Edith was the fourth of six children born to Lawrence Edmond and Edith Mae O’Hara, née Bickerstaffe. She attended Mount St. Agnes School and Notre Dame Preparatory School. Edith completed an associate degree at Villa Julie College and then worked as a secretary. She married Edmund Francis Swoboda and they resided in the Idlewood neighborhood and later in the Rodgers Forge neighborhood where they raised their three children. They attended St. Pius X Church.

When her children were older, Edith returned to work. For many years, she worked in admissions at GBMC Hospital and then as a secretary at Sheppard Pratt Hospital from which she retired in 1997. Her beloved husband, Ed, passed away in 1998.

Edith, known to many as Edie, was focused primarily on her love of family. Edie had a great sense of humor and loved to joke. She was a wonderful baker, enjoyed gardening and was an accomplished seamstress and master of many types of needlework, particularly knitting and crocheting. For many years, she was a sewing guild member.

In the last chapter of her life, Edie resided in Mays Chapel, Lutherville. She continued her needlework and became an avid follower of politics. After a health setback in 2023, she moved from Maryland to NHC Place in Franklin, Tennessee near her daughter.

As mentioned, Edith’s husband predeceased her. She was also predeceased by her brothers, Randolph O’Hara and James O’Hara. Edith is survived by her children Kathleen Tisano (Husband William) of Brentwood, Tennessee, Norman Swoboda of Lutherville, Maryland and Lawrence Swoboda (Wife Laura) of Towson, Maryland. She is also survived by ten grandchildren (Frank, Breann, William Jr., Kevin and Eleanor Tisano) (Whitney, Duncan, Ian and Phoebe Swoboda) (William Swoboda) and a great-granddaughter. In addition, Edie is survived by her sisters Kathleen Riley of Garland, Texas, Patricia Tull of Towson, Maryland and Marguerite Doxzen of Baltimore, Maryland. She will be dearly missed.

A private funeral is planned at Holy Family Catholic Church in Brentwood, Tennessee.
