Elmer Denzel Irwin

October 15, 1949 — September 13, 2025

Nashville, TN

Elmer Denzel Irwin, affectionately known to many as "Santa”, passed away peacefully on September 13, 2025, in Nashville, Tennessee, at the age of 75. Born on October 15, 1949, in Franklin, Tennessee, Denzel’s life was marked by adventure, laughter, and a profound impact on those around him.

Denzel will be remembered not just as a beloved member of the community but as a U.S. Army veteran whose journey took him through various remarkable vocations. Before becoming the iconic owner of Santa's Pub, a celebrated karaoke bar where locals and celebrities alike felt like stars, he navigated thrumming tales of resilience and reinvention. He drove ambulances, owned downtown bars, and even endured a gunshot wound, all while holding firm to his guiding principles of authenticity, values, and the belief in karma.

His greatest adventure, however, was his enduring love for Angelina, with whom he shared a bond that transcended time. After first, becoming engaged in 1969, they reunited years later to build a life together that turned strangers into friends and woven a tapestry of cherished memories at Santa's Pub, a place that echoed with song, joy, and connection.

Bringing laughter and warmth, Denzel and Angelina transformed a humble double-wide trailer into the welcoming haven of Santa's Pub. From locals to luminaries, like Ed Sheeran and Kid Rock, all who walked through its doors experienced the legendary welcome that they famously offered.

Denzel leaves behind a large and loving family. He is survived by his wife Angelina and was loved by his children: Buffy (Gary), Shanon (Sydney), Shelly (Eric), Carolyn (Ben), Angel (Brandon), Chance, and Joy (Colt). His legacy continues through his grandchildren: Jericho (Stella), Jonah (Indika), Riley (Anna), Lyla (Shane), Stillings, Magnolia, Amir, Amaris, Amanuella, Cassie, Mikey, Anika, Eliza, Scarlett, Alexis, Trenton, Ethan, Cole (Sam), Wyatt (Korbin), and Hannah. He is also survived by his great-grandchildren: Olivia, Deklan, and Mads. Denzel also shared a close bond with his siblings: Pat, Sandra, Bill, Frances, Linda, Glenda, Jerry, Brenda, and Ruby and nephews Rick and “Bubba”. Also surviving great niece Brittany and great great nephew Bentlee.
