George Edward Herron, 84, of Franklin, Tennessee, passed away on August 28th, 2024.
George was born in Maryville, Blount County, Tennessee to George Ivory Herron and Ina Dell Hilliard on April 6th, 1940. He was a graduate of Everett High School in Maryville, Tennessee. He married Patricia Louise Atchley on March 4th, 1961, in Sylva, North Carolina. He graduated from Maryville College, with a Bachelor of Science in Education, and from the University of Tennessee Knoxville, with a Master of Science. He worked as a National Park Service Ranger for Department of the Interior for 31 years and retired in 1999. He received the Harry Yount Award in 1995 for the National Park Service Southeast region.
George, in addition to the being recognized by the Department of the Interior for his service, was most proud of his work and contributions to the completion of the Natchez Trace Parkway. His life passions and pursuits included his family, storytelling, fishing, the outdoors, wildlife, and University of Tennessee athletics.
George is preceded in death by parents and siblings.
George is survived by his loving wife Patricia Atchley Herron; his loving daughter Suzanne Herron and her spouse Stephanie Cox; his loving son David Scott Herron and his spouse Chloe Roslyn Herron; and grandchildren Maximilian Phillips Herron, ZellaRae Roslyn Herron, Ethan Ivory Herron, and Abigail Victoria Herron; and Lexa Herron, mother to Ethan and Abigail.
Graveside services will be held 3pm EST, Saturday September 21st, at Grandview Cemetery in Maryville, Tennessee.
Memorials may be given to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and Boy’s Town.
