Ike Scharff Brumfield, age 86 of Nashville, TN passed away February 18, 2024. He was born in Tylertown, MS to the late Henry and Ruby Brumfield.
After graduating from The Citadel – The Military College of South Carolina in 1959 with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, Ike married the love of his life, Beverly Joyce Hill, on February 1, 1960. They started their life together in New Orleans, later settling in Jackson, MS, where they raised their three daughters.
Ike had a long and successful career in Jackson with IBM, where he managed the information technology sales relationships with large financial institutions. His accolades included many 100 Percent Clubs, the prestigious Golden Circle Award, and his contributions to the company were further recognized when he was promoted to Sales Manager.
After retiring from IBM, Ike started his own company, Information Systems Business (ISB), an IBM Business Partner, where he likewise continued to achieve professional success. It is noteworthy that many of his IBM colleagues joined him at this new venture – a testament to his leadership and professional skills.
Ike’s passions were music, hunting, fishing, and traveling. He played the piano beautifully and his rich voice soared whether he was singing hymns in church or the latest Kenny Rogers tune on the radio. Stories from his hunting and fishing trips with his large cadre of friends would fill vast volumes. As a traveler, he had a particular fondness for Hawaii and in later years enjoyed cruising with his family.
Ike was a generous supporter of The Citadel, which he credited with laying the foundation of hard work and self-discipline that served him so well.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his siblings Josie, Douglas, Stanley, Rachel, and Henry. He is survived by his wife Beverly; daughters Terri Brumfield Hagan (Riley), Lisa Brumfield McReynolds (John), Christy Brumfield Baggett (Chris); and his grandchildren. The family would like to thank Ike and Beverly’s caregivers Marie and Angelica for their care over the past year.
A celebration of life will take place at Williamson Memorial Funeral Home on Monday, March 18th at 3:00pm. The visitation will be held at 2:00pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial donations may be made to the COL Marion S. Lewis Excellence in Teaching Award at The Citadel, a fund created by Ike in recent years. This award annually provides financial resources for excellent teachers within the Baker School of Business. Send your donations to The Citadel Foundation, 171 Moultrie Street, Charleston, SC 29409.
