Jean Cromer Peters of Knoxville, TN passed away peacefully on June 9, 2024 in Brentwood, TN. Jean was born to Sylvan and Ruby (LaFevers) Cromer, October 25th, 1936 in Norman, OK. She graduated from Oak Ridge high school and The University of Tennessee in Knoxville. She lived in Oklahoma, Louisiana, New Mexico and New York before her father, who worked for the Manhattan project moved the family to Oak Ridge, TN. She is preceded in death by her parents; siblings Bill Cromer and Sylvia (Cromer) Lersch ,and oldest son Brad Peters.
She will be greatly missed by her husband of 68 years James C Peters, youngest son Steven, daughter’s in law Beth (Vornehm) Peters; and Kim (McClanahan) Peters; Grandchildren Lindsey Peters, Christian Peters Adam Peters, Brandon Peters and Andrew Peters.
Jean was a kind, loving wife, mother and teacher. She taught in various schools in East Tennessee for 35 years. She especially enjoyed teaching science. Her students and grandchildren alike loved her inventive science experiments. She was an avid gardener who never saw a spot that couldn’t be improved with a flower. She spent countless happy hours on the many boats she and her husband enjoyed. They boated up and down the east coast and into Canada. She also made the best crescent rolls in the world. Her daughter in law Beth tried to copy them for years before admitting they couldn’t be duplicated. She lived a life full of fun and family.
Our family wishes to express our great appreciation for all the caregivers and staff at Somerfield Health Center in Brentwood for their outstanding love and compassionate care when Jean’s health deteriorated. We truly cannot thank you enough.
A family Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
