Music icon Jerry Glenn Kennedy passed away peacefully on Wednesday February 11, 2026 surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Shreveport, LA on August 10, 1940 to Gordon Kennedy and Essie (Laird) Kennedy, Jerry was destined for greatness. His love and aptitude for music began at a very early age. A true prodigy, he picked up a guitar for the first time when he was only eight years old, took lessons and quickly learned to play. Gifted and innately talented, he became a music professional at the age of ten when he was signed to his first major record deal. He went on to have a celebrated an illustrious music career spanning many years and multiple genres. Jerry possessed a repertoire of skills including musician, vocalist, songwriter, record producer and industry executive. Through the years his musical prowess has been woven into the tapestry of legendary artists and projects spanning multiple genres including; Roger Miller, Tom T. Hall, Elvis Presley, Reba McEntire, Kris Kristofferson, Ringo Star, Bob Dylan, Tammy Wynette, Jeannie C. Riley, Roy Orbison and many more. He was distinctively honored with four Grammy Awards, inducted into the Musicians Hall of Fame in 2007 and was honored by The Country Music Hall of Fame in 2008, as part of their “Nashville Cats” series.
Jerry leaves behind a true legacy, his most important being his sons, Gordon, Bryan and Shelby, who have all followed in his footsteps with their own impressive and successful music careers. Aside from his passion for music, he shared a passion for sports with his sons. He also cherished family gatherings and holidays.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents Gordon Kennedy and Essie (Laird) Kennedy, his wife and the mother of his children Linda (Brannon) Kennedy and his wife Gail (Liberti) Kennedy.
Jerry is survived by his wife Delores (Dea) Kennedy, his children; Gordon Kennedy (Tracey), Bryan Kennedy and Shelby Kennedy (Sheri), his grandchildren; Caitlin Kennedy, Dylan Kennedy (Alexis), Gavin Kennedy, his great grandchildren; Miles Kennedy, Ryland Kennedy, his sisters; Barbara Blaylock, Kathy Price, his step children; Dan Dea, Cheryl Dea Monaghan, David Dea and their families.
