John David Clancey, known lovingly by his friends and family as David, passed away peacefully on July 1, 2026, in Nashville, Tennessee, surrounded by his beloved family. He was born on February 6, 1941; in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, marking the beginning of a life characterized by devotion to his catholic faith, kindness, and unwavering commitment to those he cherished.
David’s journey through life was enriched by the love of a close-knit family. Proceeded in death by parents John F. & Margaret McVey Clancey and wife Millie Vaccaro Clancey.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Carole Harrigan Clancey, who stood by his side through life’s many joys and challenges. David leaves behind a legacy of love and wisdom to his son, Michael (Hojung) Clancey, and his daughters, Margaret (Edward) Ward, Jeanne Johnson, and Lauren (Jay) Francel. His family circle was further expanded through deep bonds with his step-daughters, Colleen Bolotin and Kathleen (Heath) Boles, as well as his step-son, Terrance Harrigan, Jr., all of whom brought him immense pride and happiness.
David’s greatest joy was witnessing the growth and accomplishments of his grandchildren. He took delight in the lives of Wyatt Ward, Grace Ward, Keira Ward, Jace Johnson, Aliana Francel, Collin Francel, Laura Clancey, James Clancey, Brianna Bolotin, Adelaide Boles, Bridgett Bolotin, and Flynn Harrigan. The gift of family continued with the arrival of his great-grandchild, Bennett Johnson, whose presence brought fresh energy and hope to his later years.
Throughout his life, David was recognized for his steadfast dedication to his catholic faith and those around him. Whether offering a kind word, a helping hand, or simply a listening ear, he was a source of strength and kindness. His roots in Pittsburgh shaped his character, and his life in Tennessee was marked by meaningful relationships and enduring friendships. David’s family and friends will remember him as a gentle presence with a generous spirit.
