Julie Maddox Cain, 74, passed away on July 25, 2026, in Franklin, Tennessee. Julie was born in Johnson City, Tennessee. She married John W. Cain, II on October 29, 1988, in New Orleans, Louisiana. She graduated from East Tennessee State University with a B.S. in Psychology, then she continued her education at Middle Tennessee State University where she received an M.A. in Psychology.
Julie worked as a psychological examiner in forensic and correctional mental health with the Metropolitan Nashville-Davidson County Sheriff's Department before leading two community mental health centers. She was an active member of the local Democratic Party, volunteering her time to support candidates and regularly working the polls on Election Day. Julie was preceded in death by her parents, Jack and Foy Maddox, Johnson City. Julie is survived by her husband John W. Cain, II, her children, Sarah Beth Cain of Charlotte, North Carolina, and Eva L. Cain of Franklin, Tennessee, as well as her step-children, Noah B. Cain (Rebecca) of Murfreesboro, Tennessee and Stella O. Cain of Nashville, Tennessee, her sister Melissa Maddox Conner, and her brother John E. Maddox. A reception will be held Wednesday August 5, 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the family residence in Franklin. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 15, at Bixby Presbyterian Church (1806 Fork Bixby Road, Advance, North Carolina), with Pastor Hyatt Grissom officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Southern Poverty Law Center or Planned Parenthood.
Julie will be remembered for her beautiful smile, great laugh, generous nature, playful sense of humor, resilient spirit, and the way she made others feel loved and welcomed.
