Martha J. Hall age 91, of Franklin, TN, passed away on August 28, 2025. She was born in Newbern, TN, to the late Ova and Betty Ann Ary.
Martha was a devoted wife, mother, and “MeeMaw.” She was a faithful member of Brentwood Church of Christ and a woman whose faith, kindness, and love touched everyone she knew. Her family rejoices in knowing she is with Jesus, fully healed, and wearing a crown of glory. She is reunited with her beloved husband of 68 years, Willard Earl Hall, who passed earlier this year.
She is survived by her daughter, Hylan (David) Brinton; son, Kenton “Kent” (Laurie) Hall; grandchildren, Griffin Cook, Pearson Hall, Andy Hall, Avery Hall, Allison Hall, and Meagan (Clyde) Carver; great-grandson, Joe Manning; sister, Peggy Morphis; and niece, Paula Reed.
From her earliest years in Newbern, Martha excelled in academics—graduating as valedictorian of her high school class. She went on to Freed-Hardeman University, where she graduated as salutatorian. After college, she moved to Chicago and met Willard at church, where their shared love of singing brought them together. Captivated by her red hair, porcelain skin, and blue eyes, Willard knew he had found the love of his life. Their bond grew into more than six decades of love, family, and devotion.
Martha built a long career at Lee Clothing Company, where she worked for over 25 years and eventually served as personnel manager until the company’s closing. There she formed a treasured, lifelong friendship with Norma, they were known as “two peas in a pod.” After Lee Clothing Company closed, she boldly pursued further education, proudly earning her bachelor’s degree at the age of 60.
A fabulous cook with a true passion for recipes and cookbooks, Martha delighted in preparing meals for family and friends. She loved competition and camaraderie—whether in cards, games, or especially with her beloved Rook Club of seven dear ladies. She cheered faithfully for the Atlanta Braves, rarely missed Jeopardy or Wheel of Fortune, and always enjoyed sharing good food with loved ones.
Her faith was her anchor. Martha loved the Lord deeply and always kept her Bible by her bedside. Even during four years at NHC, while facing many illnesses, she showed courage, strength, and unwavering kindness. She became an inspiration not only to her family but also to the staff and nurses who cared for her and grew to love her dearly.
Gifted with words from childhood, Martha often had her poems published in local papers. She also carried a voice as angelic as her spirit—beautiful inside and out.
Above all, her greatest joy came in her roles as mother and grandmother. She gave of herself completely and selflessly, rarely missing her grandchildren’s events, taking them to Vacation Bible School, and creating countless cherished memories.
To know Martha was to know gentleness, grace, and faith lived out daily. Her absence leaves a hole in our hearts, but her legacy of love will continue through all who were blessed by her life.
