Martha Veal Tate

November 27, 1928 — August 25, 2025

Franklin,TN.

Martha Veal Tate, age 96, of Franklin Tennessee passed away on August 25, 2025. She was surrounded by all four of her daughters as she left this world and entered the arms of God.

She was born in Thomasville, Georgia in 1928 to her parents Fred and Jewell Dillon. Martha and her younger sister, Polly, had a wonderful, loving childhood. They were incredibly close as sisters and also the best of friends.

Martha always loved books and reading. She instilled that love in her children, as well. She wrote beautiful poetry and prose – at one point writing, illustrating and publishing her own children’s book. An accomplished artist and painter, she worked in many mediums, winning several awards for her watercolors.

Martha also traveled the world extensively and played golf throughout much of it! Surprisingly competitive, she thoroughly enjoyed playing cards, Scrabble, and other games with her family and her much loved friends at Somerby.

Martha Tate epitomized the true Southern Belle. She was beautiful in every way…kind, caring, generous and gracious to all that she met. Her faith was the cornerstone of her life and her life reflected that faith. She loved her family deeply and cherished every moment spent with them.

Simply put, Martha was an exceptional woman, wife, friend, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She is dearly loved by all and will be greatly missed. We are heartbroken, but grateful for the many wonderful years and memories.

We love you Mom, now and forever.

In Lieu of flowers, our mother had requested that donations be sent to Global Hope Network International at the link below. This is the ministry that her grandson, Trey, is involved with and was very dear to her heart.
