Starlet "Starr" Massengale Grimes ,age 74, of Nolensville, Tennessee passed away peacefully in her family home on September 12, 2026.  Born on May 2, 1952, Starr spent her earliest years living in her great-grandmother’s little white house on the banks of Nick's Creek and the New River in the mountains of East Tennessee. She and her family eventually moved to the small mountain town of Petros, where she attended Coalfield High School, graduating top of her class and earning scholarships that paved her way to the university of her choice.

Starr went on to attend Tennessee Technological University in Cookeville, where she studied Math and English. It was there that she met her husband of 46 years, Pete Grimes. Together, they built a beautiful life and spent their years together raising their three children on their farm located just north of Nolensville, Tennessee.

A brilliant mind with a passion for both logic and language, Starr shared her gifts with others throughout her life. She inspired students as a high school teacher, teaching English Composition and Calculus, and later utilized her sharp mathematical mind working as an actuary. Later, she enjoyed volunteering as the class mom for her children's primary school, and supporting the music and arts programs in her children's high school years.

In her spare time, Starr enjoyed reading and gardening. Always a woman of devout faith, Starr was an active member of her home church, Brentwood Baptist, for many years where she enjoyed teaching Pre-K Sunday School and Vacation Bible School, as well as serving as a host and sponsor for several missionaries from around the world.

Starr was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Pete, and her father, Clifford Massengale.

Her legacy of love, intellect, and devotion will be cherished forever by her surviving family: her three children: sons, Whitney Logan Grimes and Jonathan Drew Grimes, and daughter, Brittany Graysen Grimes; her mother, Betty Massengale; her sister, Pamela Fritz; and her two brothers, Keith Massengale and Mark Massengale, as well as a wealth of nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, and her granddogs that she adored and loved to spoil.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, November 14th, 2026 at Brentwood Baptist Church's Baskin Chapel. Visitation will begin at 1:00 pm with a 2:00 pm service to follow.

As Starr was a lover of plants and flowers, flower arrangements may be sent to Brentwood Baptist Church Baskin Chapel, 7777 Concord Road, Brentwood, TN , on November 14th by 1:00 pm as well as directly to the family at 1027 Jones Blvd, Murfreesboro, TN, at anytime.
