William "Billy" Burr Stinson

William “Billy” Burr Stinson, of Columbia, Tennessee, was born on January 9, 1932, and passed away on August 4, 2026 at the age of 94. Billy grew up in Franklin and attended Hillsboro High School, where he was a standout basketball player. He proudly served in the United States Army and was stationed in Germany. Throughout his working life, Billy was employed by Middle Tennessee Electric, Franklin Power & Light, and later retired as a truck driver for Kroger.

Billy was a loving uncle to all of his nieces and nephews. He will be remembered for his humor, his willingness to offer advice, and the joy he brought to those around him. He loved to sing, play the guitar, dance, cheer on the University of Tennessee Vols and talk to all his family and buddies on the phone. One of his greatest passions was coon hunting and raising coon dogs. His dog, Stinson’s Radar, was a celebrated coonhound, earning the titles of National Champion, Nite Champion, Grand Champion, and 1979 Tennessee State Champion.

Billy was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn Sweeney Stinson; his parents, C.I. “Ike” Stinson and Bessie Moore Stinson; his sisters, Edna Stinson and Cecil Stinson Smith; his brother, Donald Ray Stinson; and his nephew, Ronnie Stinson.

He is survived by his brother, Danny (Carolyn) Stinson; his Darling for the last 12 years, Betty Wright and her grandson Timothy Poteete; and his nieces and nephews, Diane (Tony) Emison, Millard (Kim) Smith, Terry (Gina) Smith, Vickie Stinson, Susan (Fred) Kane, Gary (Kim) Stinson, Shelia (David) Reed, and Eddie (Terri) Hood and 12 great nephews and nieces. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his family, friends, and all who knew him.

Graveside services will be conducted 3:00 PM Monday, August 10, 2026 at Williamson Memorial Gardens, Jim Taylor officiating. Active pallbearers will be Danny Stinson, Millard Smith, Terry Smith, Gary Stinson, Eddie Hood, Timothy Poteete, Fred Kane and Butler Nichols. Visitation with the family will be 12:00 Noon until 3:00 PM at Williamson Memorial Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the charity of your choice.
